As the happy couple turns off Interstate 95 at exit 8, heading east, in about two-and-a-half miles they may glance at each other in questioning surprise.

One will say to the other, “Did you hear that?”

The response will be, “I’m afraid to say but I’d swear I heard Jimmy Buffett singing one of my favorite get-a-way songs.”

"What did you hear? Wait…I think…yes, there it is again!"

Strummin' my six string on my front porch swing

Smell those shrimp they're beginnin' to boil

Wastin' away again in Margaritaville

…and in moments, on their right, they’ll spot the source of the musical fantasy.

Was it really a musical fantasy or were they caught in the aura of some mental meanderings back to simpler, happy times in 1977 when Jimmy…

Celebrating Independence Day 2019—July Fourth

FOURTH OF JULY PARADE by Alfred Cornelius Howland

Fourth of July Parade by Alfred Cornelius Howland

Exhibited at the High Museum of Art—Atlanta, Georgia

After voting for independence on July 2, 1776, Congress turned its attention to the Declaration of Independence, a statement explaining this decision. The Declaration had been prepared by a Committee of Five, with Thomas Jefferson as its principal author.

Congress debated and revised the wording of the Declaration, finally approving it two days later on July 4.

A day earlier, John Adams had written to his wife Abigail:

“The second day of July 1776 will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as…

May 2019 Market Reports

At this point in the year, we are getting a good sense for how the housing market is likely to perform for the foreseeable future. And although it is not a particularly exciting forecast, it is a desirable one. Markets across the country are regulating toward a middle ground between buyers and sellers. While it remains true that sales prices are running higher and that inventory options are relatively low, buyers are beginning to find wiggle room at some price points and geographies.

New Listings were up 3.7 percent to 694. Pending Sales increased 9.7 percent to 601. Inventory grew 3.4 percent to 2,363 units.

Prices moved higher as Median Sales Price was up 0.5 percent to $321,500. Days on Market held steady at 136. Months Supply of Inventory…

HBC Heritage at Seapines Resort, Hilton Head Island, SC

A Bit of Background

Following the completion of the Sea Marsh course (now Heron Point) in 1964 and Harbour Town Golf Links in 1969, Hilton Head, by way of Sea Pines, launched an experiment that turned out to be one of the most prestigious and famous annual golf tournaments on the globe.

Today, Hilton Head Island golf courses are known around the world for challenging play and outstanding resort amenities.

In 1969, when Hilton Head Island was just a little-known Lowcountry treasure, Sea Pines developer Charles Fraser announced a PGA-level Tournament to be held at the newly created Harbour Town Golf Links over Thanksgiving weekend and that was the launch of the Heritage Classic.

The purse has spiraled from of $100,000 ($770,000 in today’s…

January 2019 Market Reports

Despite a strong U.S. economy, historically low unemployment and steady wage growth, home sales began to slow across the nation late last year. Blame was given to a combination of high prices and a steady stream of interest rate hikes by the Federal Reserve. This month, the Fed responded to the growing affordability conundrum. In a move described as a patient approach to further rate changes, the Fed did not increase rates during January 2019.

New Listings were up 23.9 percent to 611. Pending Sales increased 16.5 percent to 430. Inventory grew 10.0 percent to 2,262 units.

Prices were stable as Median Sales Price decreased slightly to $327,993. Days on Market decreased 8.5 percent to 140 days. Months Supply of Inventory remained flat at 5.1

When Del Webb dubbed the nearly ten-thousand-acre development nestled between the borders of Beaufort and Jasper Counties in the South Carolina Lowcountry Sun City, he was right on.

To summarize an amalgamation of resources into a simple definition, a ‘city is distinguished from other human settlements by its relatively great size, but also by its functions and activities’.

Inside the borders of this unique development there is so much going on that it would take several posts to this blog to do justice in describing them all. Just to enumerate the larger amenities creates an impressive list:

  • Three golf courses (two full-length, one executive):
    • Argent Lakes
    • Hidden Cypress
    • Okatie Creek
  • A twenty-acre lake (Lake Somerset)

hilton head island concours d'elegance logo

In 1997, when Paul Doerring established "The Cars at The Creek" in Moss Creek Plantation it was a show concentrated on the use of the ‘motor’ in automobiles. Paul Doerring’s dream brought together a few hundred auto aficionados that came to display their vintage automobiles and view those restored and displayed by their fellow enthusiasts. The Cars at The Creek was the direct ancestor of Hilton Head Island Concours d'Elegance.

Twenty-one years later Doerring’s low key (by comparison) dream has expanded to last ten days and take place in two states.

In 2018, the entire festival will last from October 26 thru November 4, 2018 and will celebrate the colorful history of all motoring experiences from motorcycles to airplanes.

An unbelievably…
