special cobia meeting by the Hilton Head Island Sportfishing Club

Hilton Head Island has earned quite the reputation for having one of the best cobia runs anywhere along the eastern seaboard of the United States. They come here to spawn, and they tend to flood the waters surrounding the island in late spring, and fishing is best by mid May!

These are powerful fish, and can lead to a highly rewarding experience, but make sure you know what you're getting in to!

Attend A Special Hilton Head Island Sportfishing Club Meeting

The Hilton Head Sportfishing Club will be hosting a very special meeting all about the cobia, March 14th at the Yacht Club of Hilton Head Island, Palmetto Bay Marina. The club will be welcoming very special guests from the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and the South Atlantic Fisheries Management Council. Some of the topics on the agenda include:

  • What is the long term strategy to recover the Hilton Head cobia season?
  • What are the rules when you catch cobia?
  • How do we support the research program?
  • Can we use special tournaments?
  • What are the rules for commercial fishing?

The meeting aims to address those questions and so much more. Most importantly, how will warmer water temperatures change what we fish? Hear from experienced Captains about what to fish for, and whether we can expect the cobia to show up early this year.

This is sure to be a fun, informative event for experienced and novice anglers alike. The cash bar and dinner is scheduled to take place between 6:15 and 7:00, with the main program beginning at 7!

Reservations aren't necessary and guests are welcome! Be sure to contact Dave Harter for more info at 843-384-4251 or daveh@hargray.com. You can also visit the Hilton Head Sport Fishing Club website for more info!
