The word “fun” conjures images of times that have passed and times that are to come. The mere definition of the word “fun” is enjoyable or pleasurable; and that which is enjoyable or pleasurable is something the human psyche seeks, desires and acts upon on many levels. Hilton Head Island epitomizes many things: luxurious living, world-class amenities, a safe and welcoming environment for the entire family—and, yes, it is also blanketed in the word f-u-n, as in “We had fun on the beach,” or “Riding horses at Lawton Stables was fun,” or “Bicycling through the Sea Pines Forest Preserve was fun.” Fun, as defined in this article, is more than miles of beautiful beaches, lazy days, moonlit nights that illuminate the surf, wooden rope swings over the creek, fishing off the dock, backyard retreats and secret gardens filled with jasmine and butterflies.
Hilton Head is “fun” because nature’s original canvas has been protected and preserved. All that Mother Nature bestowed upon the land and on this little island is nurtured with tender love and care. No neon lights dancing in the sky, no skyscrapers blocking the view, no asphalt jungles lining the roadways—just the clear blue waters, white sand beaches, moss-laden live oaks and footprints in the surf. Homes and villas were designed to be in harmony with nature, not compete with it. The beautiful architecture, the unique views and the lush landscaping are not by happenstance. The Island’s original developers and designers imagined the times to come. They laid out a blueprint of “fun” in the most magnificent way: protect what nature has given and nature will impart a plethora of gifts in the form of a quiet, coastal paradise.
Amid the calm and quiet, however, the Island’s entertainment venues and offerings are plentiful. Events, small and large, dot the calendar including the event of the season this weekend! Don’t miss out on the Hilton Head Motoring Festival and Concours d’Elegance, October 30th through November 1st. Check it out at: http://www.hhiconcours.com/.
