Glow by the Sea: Hilton Head Lantern Parade

There is nothing as magical or mesmerizing as lights in the darkness. The Lantern Parade on Hilton Head Island, SC is a prime example of that particular brand of magic.

This year’s parade will take place on November 23, 2024, beginning right after sunset (around 5:30-5:45PM-ish). This free event celebrates the people and history of Hilton Head Island through the artistry and radiance of lanterns of every form and style, limited only by the lantern maker’s imagination.

Four bands are featured in this year’s event: parade veterans Black Sheep Ensemble, Soda City Band and the USMC Dirty Boots Band as well as newcomer The Atlanta Drum Academy.

Spectators can enjoy the parade along the beach between Alder Lane and Coligny Beach Park, Lagoon Road or the finale at Lowcountry Celebration Park.

The only requirement for participation is that you have a lantern. Parade lineup starts at 4:45PM at the Alder Lane Beach Access, continues north along South Forest Beach to Coligny Beach Park, then travels along Avocet and Lagoon Roads, ending in Lowcountry Celebration Park.

Music will be provided by Groove Town Assault in Lowcountry Celebration Park both before and after the parade. Beverages and food trucks will be on hand from 3-9PM to round out your afternoon and evening of fun with family, friends and neighbors.

Parking will be available at USCB with shuttle service provided by The Breeze. Handicapped parking spaces will also be designated along the parade route. For more information about the Lantern Parade go to https://culturehhi.org/portfolio/lantern-parade/.
