Adopt-A-Highway Litter Pickup

February 11, 9-11am at the Lemon Island Bridge.
Last month’s quarterly pickup was cancelled, so now is your chance to help Palmetto Pride and Adopt-a-Highway. Join up with like-minded volunteers and staff to help clear the SC170 highway of trash and debris. Together we can keep damaging garbage from the waters of Port Royal Sound and preserve South Carolina’s gorgeous natural climate for future generations. There will be refreshments and snacks as well, so be sure to call ahead and let them know you’ll be participating.

Hilton Head Boathouse Fishing Seminar

February 18, 8 – 3pm at the Port Royal Sound Foundation's Bluffton Location.
Learn all you need to know about fishing the fertile waters surrounding Hilton Head Island. Topics include new tackle, inshore vs offshore fishing and even a cooking demo with Chef Brad Blake of the Skull Creek Boathouse. The event will be hosted by Straycat Charters’ Captain Jim Clark, with featured speakers Captain “Fuzzy” Davis and members of the North End Charter Fleet. Admission is only $40 and includes lunch and draws each hour for great prizes!

South Carolina Aquarium’s Turtle Talk

February 20, 3 – 4:30pm at the Port Royal Sound Foundation Maritime Center.
The Port Royal Foundation will be welcoming a very special guest from the South Carolina Aquarium in Charleston. Conservation Programs Manager, Kelly Thorvalson will give a fascinating talk about sea turtle conservation and how you can get involved. She’ll also be sharing an exclusive preview of the Aquarium turtle-team’s new exhibit space! The presentation is free but space is limited – be sure to call ahead.

Saturday at the Sound

February 25, 11 – 2pm at the Port Royal Sound Foundation Maritime Center.
Bricks 4 Kids is coming to Bluffton! This family-friendly organization is set to offer four different classes for kids of all ages. These classes are dedicated to using colorful lego bricks to create dynamic learning environments, allowing your child’s creativity to flourish. Entry is $5 per child and there will be plenty of food and refreshments from a variety of local food trucks.

Speaker Series: Andrew Carmines

February 28, 5:30 – 7pm at the Port Royal Sound Foundation Maritime Center.
Andrew Carmines is the owner/operator of Hudson’s Seafood. He is scheduled to give a talk about “things you may not know about Lowcountry seafood”. Learn everything you’ve ever wanted to learn about shrimp, soft shell crab, oysters, stone crab claws, commercial fishing and much more. It’s sure to be a fascinating look at what factors have shaped the industry, and how its changed and reinvented itself in the modern rera. Reservations are required and entry is $8. The event will also feature a live cooking demonstration!
