Sea Pines Resort, Hilton Head Island’s premier oceanfront resort, is no stranger to new construction. At any given time, there are major projects underway. These new construction projects are underway near the resort itself - the Harbour Town Club House, Beach Club, Plantation Club, or golf course redesigns and renewals at Harbour Town Golf Links and the new Heron Course).
As well as by individual owners building new, beautiful homes or renovating existing homes to suit their needs and tastes. To that end, Calibogue Cay, an Island landmark and premier neighborhood, is currently undergoing a building bonanza of its own.
Oh, by the way, there are four syllables; it’s pronounced Ca-li-bo-gee.
A Hilton Head Island Landmark
Referred to by locals as “The Cay”, Calibogue Cay is off the beaten path, yet, at the center of it all with Harbour Town just a short stroll through the woods. Yes, the woods! It’s that private on the Cay. Most of the homes are permanently occupied---that is, there are no short-term vacation rentals. With few exceptions, residents of the Cay are full-time, well-known Islanders.
Beloved for its unmatched natural beauty, the Cay is a peninsula accessed via a three-quarter mile scenic causeway off the famed live-oak canopied Plantation Drive. The legal name is actually Long Island! The causeway ends and splits left to South Calibogue Cay and right to North Calibogue Cay.
The Cay is, by far, the most unique and coveted location in all of Sea Pines. Marsh, tidal creek, deep water Calibogue Sound, beautiful landscapes, centuries-old live oaks, quiet, secluded and---not by chance---it’s where the father of Sea Pines, Charles Fraser, chose to stake his claim and build the family compound in the early days of Sea Pines.
A Little Something for Everyone!
New homes, old homes, exquisite mansions, comfortable bungalows and everything in between dot the roadside, each with its own unique view of either the creek or the sound. Most of the homes have private docks with boats on the cleat ready for launch.
Sound side or creek side, each homeowner enjoys a fabulous water view; many homes have beautiful private pools and outdoor living areas conducive to Island living at its finest. There are currently four new homes under construction (5,000 square feet and up), three lots with home plans awaiting final architectural approval and two lots with owners planning to build in the coming year. Price points for deep water lots on the Cay start at $1,695,000 with homes to $6,900,000.
