When you first research living in South Carolina’s Lowcountry you are immediately confronted with the amazing number and diversity of activities available to residents and visitors. Trip Advisor lists twenty-five. Well some of them are not for everyone, like extreme watersports.

water jet pack, near Moss Creek, SCThe extreme activity depicted on the right is called Water Jetpack Riding and yes, it is available as a recreation activity in the Bluffton-Hilton Head Island area. Not within the confines of the Moss Creek community but within a twenty-minute drive.

The amazing thing about Moss Creek is that within the borders of this one-thousand-acre gated community are so many of the sports, interests and pastimes sought after by people of every age group and background.

I will launch this celebration of Moss Creek by listing the activities and amenities available to the residents and then focus on the more spectacular.

If you are a resident of Moss Creek you have available to you:

  • 14,000 square foot Moss Creek Clubhouse
  • 3.1 miles of leisure trails
  • A world-class fitness center
  • Bostwick Recreational Area and Waterfront Pavilion
  • Moss Creek Equestrian Center
  • Moss Creek Marina with deep water, boat storage - including 75 wet slips, and 93 dry storage areas; launching ramp with water and electricity at docksides; kayak use - free to members; kayak storage
  • Moss Creek Tennis Center
  • Two Fazio-designed golf courses with full service pro shop
  • Two Nature Preserves: Fording Island Nature Preserve and Blue Heron Sanctuary
  • Waterfront Community Pools

That’s some collection of major amenity groups so let me expand on a few of those that will probably be the features of greatest interest to most people planning a future in the South Carolina Lowcountry.

Waterfront Community Pools

Add to that awesome, resort-style pool geysers at the beach entry and you not only have a great place to swim, do water aerobics or just sit on your foam noodle, you are in an aesthetically grand spot overlooking the beach.

For the youngsters there is a sixteen-foot diameter Kiddie Pool, at the very safe depth of only eighteen inches.

Finally, for the athletic and health-conscious residents there is a twelve-foot Sunbrella Lap Pool.

Bostwick Waterfront Pavilion

bostwick waterfront pavillion, moss creek, scAfter an energizing and glorious day at the pool, that evening may very well be spent at a community event, a holiday celebration or maybe the anniversary merriment of one of your neighbor couples. The great part of that event is that it is not even outside the gates of Moss Creek. It will be held at the beautiful, impressive and one-of-a-kind Bostwick Waterfront Pavilion, accommodating up to one-hundred-thirty-four quests.

Overlooking the marina, the Pavilion has sufficient parking and plenty of golf cart spaces for the residents to make the easy commute from their homes in this spectacular community.

A Boater's Paradise

moss creek marinaFor those that love boating, fishing and kayaking, Moss creek is a unique venue. With one of the few private mainland marinas in the area, life on the water becomes a nautical dream at Moss Creek.

Members have extraordinary access to this magnificent stretch of coastline. With boat slips and storage, private and club kayak racks, five fishing docks and two crabbing docks, the Moss Creek private marina is the launching point for a day of water fun. With access to the Intracoastal Waterway, the experienced yachtsman has within his reach the entire Eastern Seaboard and beyond.

This description of the fantastic amenities and facilities at Moss Creek could fill volumes but it has been said by Fred R. Barnard, of Printers' Ink, on March 10, 1927 “A picture is worth a thousand words.”

So, I will close with pictures depicting the three most popular moderate weather recreation activities in the United States today.

Tennis

Golf

Equestrian

All these scenes, depicting these activities, are from the facilities at Moss Creek.
