Spring is officially here! Freshly-planted flowers, newly-mowed lawns and brightly colored azalea blooms announce next week’s arrival of Hilton Head’s most famous event: the RBC Heritage Golf Tournament presented by Boeing, held each year in the lovely Sea Pines Resort.
To be sure, spring is a wonderful time to be on the Island. Every year, the reawakening is a welcome respite from the long winter’s wrath (though our winters are typically quite tolerable with very few unseasonable temps). We have entered the time that second-home and villa owners block their calendars to be here, to play golf, to take long walks on the beach, to spend time with family and friends, to entertain, to shop, to dine out, to wind down….to escape. Showings for existing properties are up as are pending contracts and closed sales. For every reason—whether it’s the beach, golf, tennis, nature, boating, fishing, or just relaxing—Hilton Head is the place to be.
That said, real estate on Hilton Head Island and in Bluffton has entered a new phase. The area is no longer considered just a retirement area. People from all walks of life are discovering the beauty and the lure of the Island and communities in Bluffton. Buyers are eager to secure a home, villa or lot on which to later build, while sellers are discovering that their properties are fetching more than they previously thought. In a nutshell, the numbers are good. Picturesque and stunning landscapes, along with water views and silhouettes from the palms and live oaks frame the view from most properties on the Island, creating the beautiful escape. Custom homes with outdoor living areas, social clubs, activities and friendly neighbors are beckoning. With an improving economy and low mortgage rates, lot owners are now deciding that it is the perfect time to start anew. Not surprisingly, new construction on these lots and major renovations for existing homes are on the rise.
Yes, the great escape to coastal living. What could be finer?
